If a book is tedious to you, don’t read it; that book was not written for you.  jorge luis borges
One of my favorite bloggers is Austin Kleon, a very creative guy who weekly explores the multiverse of creativity. I’ve been following him for years and have reviewed three of his books in Musings: Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work and Keep Going. He often recommends books on a wide variety of subjects, and I regularly add a few to my reading list, like The Notebook.
Austin recently reformatted his popular Read Like an Artist zine to a single page, which can be downloaded free. In it, he shares 10 tips that have enriched his reading life, many of which have also directed my life-long love of reading.
His first tip is to Stop Reading Books You Don’t Like. Kleon states, “If you aren’t getting anything out of a book, put it down and pick up another book. Every hour you spend inching through a boring book is an hour you could’ve spent plowing through a brilliant one.”
