“To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.” George MacDonald
As I reflect on 50+ years as a professional (i.e. paid!) graphic designer, I cannot overlook those who—early in my career—put their unwavering trust in a young, inexperienced artist to “deliver the goods.” Beyond monetary investment, they entrusted me to envision their dreams and goals and design effective communication to achieve the desired results. In many cases, I not only designed logos and printed pieces but also wrote copy, took photographs and created entire promotional campaigns. They not only believed in my abilities, they encouraged me and recommended me to others. And as they moved from place to place and position to position, most brought me along. Our personal and professional relationships intertwined and spanned decades.
In coming posts, I’ll spotlight 11 individuals and 1 organization—and some of the work we did together. These Musings are my way of saying a heartfelt “thank you” to 12 whose trust verified God’s calling on my life and helped chart its course.
